Conservation is a Human Obligation...
It is NOT Human Good Deed based on Human Passion...NOR human care to save life of plants, animals, mater and land, water and sky from destruction.
Conservation work around the world has been treated as human concern and human passion towards nature, to save natural environment from destruction, to save plants and animals from extinction, This frame of mind treat nature as a separate entity from human beings.
The Melanesian Way of Conservation says whatever we do, good or bad, to nature, we are doing so to ourselves.
MODERN CONCEPT OF CONSERVATION
We say that Melanesian Way of Conservation is not (a) Biosphere reserve (b) sanctuary (c) National park (d) Protected forest
We propose a holistic and realistic framework of conservation work based on Melanesian experience, where human beings become the key player and key part in conservation and spirits of beings as the key element and determinant factor in the conservation work..
We do not carry out conservation because we care for the nature, and our passion is towards the other beings. BUT we do it because it is our inherent obligation as human beings.
Modern concept of conservation is protection of natural heritage, with the notion of preservation of wilderness and the conservation of biodiversity. The Melanesian Way of Conservation proposes a concept of conservation as acknowledgement and protection of spirit hotspots that are mapped out very well through storylines of families, clans and ethnic groups and codification and legalisation of Customary Laws that have proven protecting the life on planet Earth.
MELANESIAN CONCEPT OF CONSERVATION
The Melanesian Way of Conservation is a Model of Conservation based on Melanesian wisdom that is pro-life and pro-balance.
Melanesian Way of Conservation of Conservation speaks about the spirit element as the source, nurturer and sustainer of life that should become the priority for protection.
We carry out our conservation work primarily because we are the nature, and that nature conservation is an existential action to preserve life on this planet Earth.
Religiously speaking, if we regard human beings created in accordance with God's own image, then we are supposed to be like God that creates, nurtures and sustains the universe
Philosophically speaking, if humans are regarded as superior to other beings, then human should be responsible to act to preserve life on Earth to continue.
Spiritually speaking, conservation is about humans coming to realisation and act to save the life by first of all acknowledging and protecting the spirit hotspots of the world.
Morally speaking, conservation is about humans responsibility to fix the mistakes that have been done that have brought about disastrous consequences to life in general and particularly on planet Earth.
It seems sad that on one hand such exquisite creatures should live out their lives and exhibit their charms only in these wild, inhospitable regions, doomed for ages yet to come to hopeless barbarism; while on the other hand, should civilized man ever reach these distant lands, and bring moral, intellectual, and physical light into the recesses of these virgin forests, we may be sure that he will so disturb the nicely-balanced relations of organic and inorganic nature as to cause the disappearance, and finally the extinction, of these very beings whose wonderful structure and beauty he alone is fitted to appreciate and enjoy: This consideration surely tells us that all living things were not made for man (WALLACE apud QUAMMEN, 2004, pg. 610-611).
